NW Briefs | Finalists for EWU job are set
University of Washington assistant coach Jim Shaw and Seattle Pacific coach Jeff Hironaka are among the four finalists for the men's basketball coaching vacancy at Eastern Washington.
Hironaka will interview today and Shaw on Tuesday for the chance to succeed Mike Burns, who was recently fired. Shaw has been an UW assistant for three years, while Hironaka has coached SPU for five years, going 95-49 since taking over for Ken Bone.
The other finalists are former Boise State coach Rod Jensen and UNC-Wilmington assistant Kirk Earlywine. Former San Diego coach Brad Holland, originally considered a front-runner, withdrew from consideration last week.
Rowing
Seattle's Green Lake Crew rowed to a photo-finish silver medal in the men's varsity eight on Sunday at the USRowing Youth (High School) National Championship on Harsha Lake in Amelia, Ohio.
Silver-medal performances also were turned in by the Everett Rowing men's lightweight eight, Pocock Rowing Center's women's coxed four, Lakeside School's men's coxed four, and Sammamish Rowing's men's lightweight double. Mount Baker Rowing's women's coxed four captured a bronze medal.
