Robbery suspect shot by police in North Seattle

A car chase involving several police cars and two suspects in the sideways car at upper left, ended in a parking lot of a 7-11 at 1st Avenue Northeast and Roosevelt Way North. The suspects were still trying to flee when they ended up sideways up against the wall, knocking loose several supports (far right and center) that holds up the facade of the store. The damaged hood in the foreground car (a plainclothes detective car) was caused by the suspects trying to back into the car when they were in the parking lot.
A man suspected of a robbery in Edmonds was shot several times by Shoreline and Edmonds police officers this morning in North Seattle.
At about 5 a.m. the man, who police say is in his 20s, allegedly robbed another man at gunpoint in a room at Andy's Motel on Highway 99 in Edmonds. When Edmonds police arrived later to investigate they saw the suspect drive by, said Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the King County Sheriff's Office, which provides police services for Shoreline.
At about 9 a.m., Edmonds police, assisted by Shoreline police officers, pursued the man into Shoreline. They cornered him at a convenience store parking lot at First Avenue Northeast and Roosevelt Way North.
The officers stepped out of their cars when the man attempted to run them over, Urquhart said.
Officers from both Edmonds and Shoreline fired several times, striking the man. Urquhart said he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
"It sounds like they [the officers] were in fear for their lives," he said.
The man was taken to a hospital.
Seattle Police Department will investigate the shooting.
