Regrets, they've had a few ...

I could fill a column with all the dumb things I did in 2007, but I won't. Because it's more fun — and makes me feel better — to read about other people's oopses, faux pas and regrets.

On the eve of a fresh new year without any mistakes in it (yet), here's a mostly random collection of resolutions and regrets. For the record, I regret the time I left a Mariners game at the top of the ninth because they were down something like 5-0, only to learn they came back to win by some ridiculous margin. Also: That might have been in 2006.

My resolution is to come up with more original column ideas in the new year. Cheers!

J.J. Putz, Mariners closer: "My biggest regret was not being able to pie everyone last year. My New Year's resolution is not to have a repeat of last year and let some guys get away without a [shaving cream] pie [in the face]."

Bill Wixey, Q13 morning anchor: "Not going to Van Halen on Dec. 3 at KeyArena. Colossal mistake. Did catch the Police, though. Twice. So I guess that sorta makes up for it."

Steve Pool, KOMO-TV: "Not going to the bathroom before putting on those tights for my cameo as Grandfather in Pacific Northwest Ballet's 'Nutcracker.' Resolution: No missed forecasts. (I'll need divine help on that one.)"

Peter Boal, artistic director of PNB: "On Christmas Eve last year I let Drosselmeier [a character from 'Nutcracker'] out on stage with a plunger. Big mistake! Who knew there were so many uses for a plunger and who knew so many people would want a refund?"

Jasmine Moir, Seattle editor of DailyCandy.com: "All the times my friends and I canceled plans because we were 'too busy' or 'too tired.' We are single-ish and (mostly) childless. I'm sure I'll look back someday and think that I didn't know the meaning of 'busy.' "

Kurt Thomas, Sonics center: "I didn't spend enough money on my girlfriend."

Paul Shipman, CEO Redhook Ale Brewery: "I've wasted time second-guessing some of my old choices instead of enjoying the fruits of my good decisions. ... [In 2008], I'm going to work hard on reducing the average age of my wine cellar while making room for some new bottles."

Tamara Wilson, Wilson PR: "My biggest regret is eating whole sandwiches. [In 2008], I will only eat a half sandwich at lunch."

John Curley, KING-TV host: "I have a long-standing feud with [radio talk-show host] 'Mitch in the Morning' on KJR. I was hired to give two speeches and somebody asked me about him and I unloaded on the guy. The second speech got canceled because I was so mean to Mitch Levy, so I regret that."

Luly Yang, fashion designer: "My regret in 2007 is not taking a much needed annual vacation!"

Nick Collison, Sonics forward: "Resolution: Become more eco-friendly. Regret: I gave up on the TV show 'Heroes.' "

Roger Levesque, star forward of Seattle Sounders: "Regrets: Not taking full advantage of the 'Buddy the Elf' costume my sister bought me for my birthday early in '07, shaving my mustache (I was way cooler when I had a mustache), and calling my mom while riding in the trunk of a car — an unbelievably bad idea."

M.J. McDermott, Q13 meteorologist: "Making too big a deal out of my high-school reunion in Maryland. The reunion itself was a bust — very few of my high-school friends were there, the food was bad and the constant drone of old disco music was too loud for decent conversations."

Stacya Silverman, my eyebrow waxer: "I was just diagnosed as having very low Vitamin D, so my resolution is that I am going to leave work from 1 to 3 p.m. to get outdoors, no exceptions. Low vitamin D is linked to cancer, MS and all kinds of crap I don't want. So there it is: New commitment to the great outdoors."

Kelly Jennings, Seahawks cornerback: "I don't make resolutions because I know I will break them."
