Consultant's report on animal shelters posted on Web site
A report to the Metropolitan King County Council that cites "dismal" conditions and "inhumane care" at the county's two animal shelters has been posted on the council's Web site.
Consultant Nathan Winograd outlined his findings March 17 in an oral report to the County Council in which he said cats in the Kent shelter infirmary hadn't been given food or water on two consecutive days he visited in February. County Executive Ron Sims and Animal Care and Control Acting Director Al Dams blasted Winograd and said the cats didn't go without food and water.
Winograd wrote in his full, 147-page report that Sims has failed for a decade to improve a shelter system that "is antiquated, regressive, dilapidated, and even cruel." Shelters are located in Kent and Bellevue.
The report is posted at www.kingcounty.gov/council.
