The Everett District was one of the first in the state to require a senior project as a requirement for graduation and also was among the first to switch from traditional parent-teacher conferences to student-led conferences, where students present some of their best work to parents and explain what concepts they learned.
Superintendent: Interim superintendent Karst Brandsma was deputy superintendent and took over when Carol Whitehead, who led the district since 2000, announced her retirement in 2008.
Alternative/home school programs: Sequoia High School, the Home School Center
The numbers: 4.4% African-American, 11.8% Asian-American, 9.1% Hispanic, 1.5% Native American and 69.6% White; 31.6% low-income; 12% special-education; 7.9% ESL.
Funding: A 20-year, $199 million bond measure and a four-year, $134 million operations levy were approved in February 2006.
