Snohomish County's largest school district encompasses not only the city of Edmonds but also Brier, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Woodway.
In 2006, district voters approved a construction bond measure that paid for a new Meadowdale Middle School and a new, relocated Lynnwood High School.
Edmonds has strong community partnerships, such as the Edmonds Education Foundation and Alumni Association, which help pay for many classroom projects, scholarships and internships. Superintendent: Since September 2004 the district has been led by Superintendent Nick Brossoit.
Alternative/home school programs: Scriber Lake High School, the Edmonds Homeschool Resource Center.
The numbers: 6.2% African-American, 14.2% Asian-American, 9.1% Hispanic, 1.5% Native American and 68.1% White; 27.5% low-income; 12% special education; 8.6% ESL.
Funding: In addition to the 20-year, $140 million construction bond measure, voters approved a 4-year, $138 million program and operations levy in February 2006. A four-year, $31.5 technology and capital levy passed in May 2008.
