| Academic highlights |
|
- U.S. Blue Ribbon School in '05-06. with a rigorous academic environment. International focus with each student taking 6 consecutive years of humanities, international studies, the arts, science, math and world language. Annual themes connect lessons in all classes and coursework. Seniors do a culminating project, and all senior schedules are tailored to meet their individual needs and higher education requirements.
- Personalized education with an advisory system to keep students connected to group of students through all six years. Small-group meetings for 9th graders and their parents to begin post-high school preparation. Juniors and their parents meet with the principal and academic counselor to assist in college search and application.
- Students promoted based on academic performance, not social promotion or basic seat time. Students learn to manage their time and studies and average 2-3 hours of homework per night. School offers peer tutoring and mentoring for all students.

- Each year students and staff participate in Focus Week activities designed to apply class curriculum to the real world, past excursions took students to Italy and Germany, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Seattle Film Festival, Camp Indralaya.
- Students are required to use graphing calculators, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet research, spreadsheets, and data resources. Video and editing projects are common in course work.
- For several years, ranked among the best 100 high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report magazine, 24th of the top 100 in the Best High Schools 2009 Search.
