| Advanced Placement or honors classes |
|
| Teachers use "challenge" assignments (more complex, elaborate assignments that allow students to demonstrate higher-level thinking skills) to encourage highly capable and motivated students. Students can earn an "honors" designation on their transcript if they regularly complete the "challenge" assignments in the class. |

Students are supported with teachers, aides and general education students (Student Aides). The Student Aiding Program is a highly successful class that builds a community at IJH. |

| Significant changes at the school |
|
| New wing added four classrooms and replaced 8 portables, opened in fall 2006. |
| |
| Other highlights |
|
- Teachers use interactive whiteboards (ACTIVboards), document cameras and a classroom projection system. Technology is integrated into instruction and learning in all classes rather than taught as a stand- alone subject.
- Natural Helpers peer program fosters leadership, improves health and well-being of all students. Natural helpers are students already seen by the student body as helpful people. The Natural Helper program provides them with training to increase their ability to help other students, especially with more serious issues they may encounter.
